Benson-Porter Jazz Quartet features bassist, Gerard Benson, and pianist/vocalist, Judith Porter. Gerard is from Charlotte, NC, and over the past 40 years, his musical experiences have ranged from R&B to jazz to country to musical theater to African music. These days he plays regularly with the Bill Hanna Jazz Jam at the Double Door,The Seventh Street Gator Band at the Cajun Queen, and A Sign of the TImes of the Carolinas. And, if you don't blink, he can catch a glimpse of Gerard as a musician in the movie, "The Color Purple"!
Judith studied classical piano at The New England Conservatory and has toured the country with national educational and theatrical productions. She also has experience as on-camera and voice-over talent working in commercials and training videos. Judith currently teaches music appreciation and jazz history classes at Gaston College in Dallas, NC.
Joining Gerard and Judith for their debut at Blues Boulevard Jazz Spartanburg will be saxophonist, Carl Ratliff and drummer, Tommy Greene. The quartet will perform jazz standards and contemporary classics.
